The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is weaker in a few points compared to the Ultra version. But it's still a very powerful smartphone. Unfortunately, you get a display with a display density of only 421 ppi, which is a downgrade compared to previous models such as the Samsung Galaxy S10. After all, the cameras have been improved.

In contrast to the Ultra version, the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is a little weaker than usual this time. But is it still better than its predecessor, the Galaxy S20?

Samsung Galaxy S21 – is it still worth it?

The Samsung Galaxy S21 has left out some features compared to the larger Ultra version. The resolution of the screen is lower (1080 x 2400 px instead of 1440 x 3200 px) and the back is only made of plastic. That’s a pretty strange way Samsung is going here because they’d also like a compact smartphone with the best features. Except for these 2 shortcomings, it is still a top smartphone.

Otherwise it has very good features, such as B. the IP68 certification (water-tight up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes). The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the display has become a bit faster and more reliable than its predecessor, the Galaxy S20. The area where the fingerprint is recognized has increased.

With a 4000 mAh battery, the Galaxy S21 has the same capacity as the previous model. But it lasts up to 20 hours longer (90 hours vs. 70 hours).

The Galaxy S21 has stereo sound, which should be the case with every smartphone in this price range. The sound is clear and okay. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a headphone jack.

Display: Saved compared to the Ultra version

The display is a 6.2 inch “Dynamic AMOLED 2X” display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It shows all colors very vividly and the black is really black. Although it is a bit darker in contrast to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, everything can still be seen very well in sunlight.

The refresh rate of 120 Hz is adaptive. This means that it adapts to what is currently on the screen. This saves as much battery life as possible.

Samsung Galaxy S21 camera

The Samsung Galaxy S21 has 3 cameras. A 12 MP main camera (12 MP, f / 1.8, 26mm (wide), 1 / 1.76 “, 1.8µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS), a telephoto lens for the zoom (64 MP, f / 2.0, 29mm (telephoto) , 1 / 1.72 “, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 1.1x optical zoom, 3x hybrid zoom), and a lens for wide-angle shots (12 MP, f / 2.2, 13mm, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1 / 2.55” 1.4µm , Super Steady video). Overall, the photos are very vivid and Samsung is once again playing at the highest level. The selfie photos have improved a bit.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 can record 4k videos at 60 fps which is going to be very good. The videos also have a relatively wide angle.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S21 suitable for VR?

With its low resolution, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is unfortunately a little less suitable for VR. At just 421 ppi, pixels are more recognizable. (You can find out why resolution is so important here VR glasses resolution )

Otherwise it would fit very well. If you want to know what makes a good VR cell phone, you can read here: VR cell phone: It should be able to do it.
