The Samsung Galaxy S20 comes back with an impressive display and a pixel density of 563 ppi. The camera equipment is also impressive, although it only has 3 lenses on the back compared to the Plus model. This time, the display takes up over 89.5% of the front of the smartphone. This time the hole for the selfie camera moves to the middle. Overall, the Galaxy S20 is very good to use for a breathtaking VR experience with VR glasses.

Samsung Galaxy S20 – yet another top smartphone from Samsung. What special innovations are there compared to the predecessor? Is the price justified and is virtual reality suitable?

Samsung Galaxy S20 – Excellent workmanship

Like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S10, the Samsung Galaxy S20 shines again with an excellent design. With this version the display fills the front to 89.5%, with the predecessor it was 88.3%. The Pro version of the Galaxy S20 also comes 90.5%. The front consists more or less almost entirely of a display.

The display edges are rounded again, as can already be seen on previous models and on flagships from other manufacturers. Due to these curves, the smartphone feels very comfortable in the hand and is by no means a block in the hand. However, you have to be careful at first that it doesn’t fall out of hand.

Unfortunately, 5G is not included as standard with this variant, but there is the Galaxy S20 5G, which ensures extremely fast transfer rates. It’s again IP68 waterproof and has an aluminum frame. In general, you can’t go wrong with this all-screen design these days, provided the quality is right. Compared to its predecessor, the camera hole has moved to the center of the display. With a size of 151.7 x 69.1 x 7.9 mm, it is about 2 mm longer than its predecessor. In return, the display has also become 0.1 inch larger.

Samsung’s in-house Exynos 990 chipset does an impressive job with 8 GB of RAM to play games and videos smoothly and generally to ensure smooth handling. The battery has been equipped with your 4000 mAh compared to the S10, which had a 3400 mAh battery. This ensures a pleasantly long operating time of approx. 11 hours. However, if you increase the refresh rate to 120 Hz, you should expect about 2 hours less.

The standard memory is 128 GB and can be expanded using a memory card.

120 Hz display ensures a very fluid experience

This time, Samsung has installed a 120 Hz display, which, in contrast to conventional 60 Hz displays and even 90 Hz displays, is immediately noticeable when operated. You can choose between 60 Hz or 120 Hz in the settings. Everything just feels smoother and smoother to use and is of course fun to use this smartphone. Unfortunately, the 120 Hz use a lot of battery.

The colors of the 6.2-inch AMOLED display are very vivid, the black is very deep and the colors appear very precise and rich in contrast. Even in the sun, the content is very easy to read with a brightness of up to 1200 nits. This time, Samsung has placed the selfie camera in the middle of the upper edge of the display.

As with contemporary models of the competition, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is located directly in the display, which always reacts quickly and reliably.

Samsung always equips smartphones with pleasantly sharp displays (in contrast to Huawei or Apple). With its QHD AMOLED display, it achieves a pixel density of 563 ppi, which is a relatively good sign of a pleasant VR experience.

Samsung Galaxy S20 – the sound

As usual, Samsung delivers stereo sound. It can get very loud, but it cannot keep up with the competition. In addition, it just sounds extremely weird when you watch a video in Quee format and the sound only comes from one side. Huawei could think about something here and should upgrade to stereo.

Although Samsung has not been able to resist swipes at the competition in the past, it is now jumping on the bandwagon with the Galaxy S20 and no longer has a headphone jack installed. That means you have to use an adapter.

Samsung’s strong camera equipment

The Samsung Galaxy S20 has only 3 lenses compared to the Plus model, but it still takes great photos true to time and can compete with the competition without any problems.

The main camera on the back consists of a 12 MP main camera, 64 MP zoom lens and a 12 MP wide-angle lens. Videos can now even be recorded at 8k at 24 Hz.

The photos from the camera on the front are also very impressive, which is missing from many smartphones.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S20 suitable for VR?

The Samsung Galaxy S20, like its predecessors, can be used very well for virtual reality thanks to its high pixel density. The size of the display, the OLED technology and the performance are ideal.
