The Huawei P30 Pro comes with impressive camera equipment. 4 lenses on the back ensure sharp and true color photos. The display takes this time even more of the front of the smartphone, the Notch is only a relatively small "drop". Unfortunately, the relatively small resolution for such a large display leads to a low pixel density of only 398 ppi, which is very noticeable when used for VR.

Huawei P30 Pro – with an exceptionally good camera Huawei wants to convince with the P30 Pro. Design and equipment are available as usual in the highest quality. What else does the smartphone have to offer? Is it suitable for Virtual Reality?

Huawei P30 Pro – Strong design, strong features

Like the predecessor Huawei P20 Pro, the Huawei P30 Pro convinces again with a strong all-screen design. In contrast to the predecessor model, the physical button disappears at the bottom of the smartphone, which was very difficult to reach anyway. The display margins are rounded this time, as can be seen on flagships from other manufacturers. Through these curves, the smartphone feels very comfortable in the hand and is by no means chunky.

It is IP68 waterproof and has an aluminum frame. Generally, you can not go wrong with this all-screen design these days, as long as the quality is right. With a size of 158 x 73 mm, it is about the size of a Galaxy S10+, but 0.6 mm thicker.

The Huawei P30 Pro is available in 128GB and 256GB versions. The storage space can be extended by an SD card. The Kirin 980 chipset also does a great job of smoothly playing games, videos, and getting fluid handling in general. The battery can convince with its 4200 mAh hours and manages up to 100 hours in standby mode.

Display: As usual from Huawei – low pixel density

Huawei likes to outfit his smartphones with some “blurred” displays. With its 1080p AMOLED display pixel density of only (!) 398 ppi, the contents are relatively sharp to read, but for a VR experience is unfortunately a bit too little. In comparison: Galaxy S10 + has 550 ppi, the Galaxy S9 + about 529 ppi (1440p).

Otherwise, the colors are very impressive, the black is very deep and the colors look very accurate and realistic. Even in the sun, the contents are very pleasant to recognize. At the upper edge of the display there is a small notch in the middle, which rather comes in the form of a drop, as the Oneplus 6T has demonstrated.

In the display also the fingerprint scanner has wandered. This one really works fast and reliable.

Huawei P30 Pro – the sound

To make the display even bigger, Huawei has removed the traditional speakers and creates the sound via vibrations below the display, unfortunately there are no stereo speakers when watching videos or listening to music. The sound comes only from a speaker on the bottom of the smartphone. This is very good, but stereo is essential for some people.

Unfortunately, there is no speaker connection, which means you have to use an adapter.

Very strong camera equipment

The P30 Pro is highly praised for its strong camera equipment. On the back there are 4 lenses with a 20 MP wide-angle lens, with which you can also take macro shots, a 40 MP main lens for normal shooting and an 8 MP telephoto lens, which has a 5x optical zoom. In addition, under the flash is a small lens, which is responsible for the impressive portrait photos.

Is the Huawei P30 Pro suitable for VR?

Unfortunately, the Huawei P30 Pro, like its predecessor model, unfortunately can not be used well for virtual reality with a low pixel density of only 398 ppi. The size of the display, the AMOLED technology and the performance would fit very well, but the low pixel density is very noticeable when used for VR.
