Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 – this smartphone is a special gaming phone that fulfills everything you would expect from a gaming phone.

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 – special design, impressive features

To get a quick impression of this beast, let’s start with a few specs: The smartphone is cooled with two fans. It has up to 18 GB of RAM – some laptops these days don’t have that much RAM. The Legion Duel 2 has 512 GB of memory – some laptops these days don’t have that much either. Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G and Adreno 660 – You can already see what you wanted to achieve with this smartphone: absolute performance for gamers.

On the right side of the smartphone there are additional touchkeys that can be used in games: L1, L2, R1 and R2. Similar to a controller for your game console. These buttons can be freely assigned in each game, so that you can easily use the function for e.g. B. L1 placed on an area on the screen. If you then touch L1, the function that is located at this point on the display is triggered, as if you were touching the point with your finger. Interestingly, the retractable selfie camera is also on the right side of the smartphone. As with the previous model, this makes sense if you want to film yourself while streaming.

The Legion Duel 2 has 2 USB-C ports. Depending on whether you are playing or using your smartphone normally in portrait mode, you can decide which connection to use for charging. Or, you can use both at the same time to charge the huge 5500 mAh battery faster. This huge battery is divided into 2 cells. The 90 watt power supply charges even this large battery extremely quickly.

The cameras and the active fans, which are placed in the middle on the back, also ensure a very unusual, futuristic appearance. You can even freely adjust the lighting of the fans and the Legion logo on the back.

Legion Duel Phone 2 Display: Fast 144 Hz

The display can show colors very vividly and the 144 Hz ensure an incredibly smooth experience. You can freely choose between 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz in the settings, which affects the battery life accordingly.

Unfortunately, we immediately noticed a small flaw in the resolution of the display. With a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels on a display size of 6.92 inches, you can calculate the pixel density that results: 388 ppi. Now it can be said that the display is that big. Calculated over 6 inches, that’s 448 ppi. If you were to calculate it to be the size of a Galaxy S20 (6.2 inches), that would result in approx. 428 ppi. As we know, the pixels are more visible here and you cannot speak of a really sharp image. The not too high resolution certainly benefits the performance and the battery life.

Compared:

  • Samsung Galaxy S20: 563 ppi
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 5G: 407 ppi
  • Galaxy S10: 550 ppi
  • Galaxy S10 5G: 502 ppi
  • Galaxy S9 Plus: 529 ppi

You can quickly see that you are scaling down the display resolution for the 5G variants in order to save battery. Find out why pixel density is so important here: VR glasses resolution .

Overall, the display of the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 is very good in terms of 144 Hz and the very bright, lively AMOLED display.

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 – the sound

Lenovo has also focused very much on the sound of this smartphone. The stereo speakers are louder and more powerful than most other smartphones and still reproduce a clear sound.

The camera equipment of the Legion Phone Duel 2

The selfie camera is placed on the right side of the housing. As with the previous Legion Phone Duel, the purpose of this placement is that you can film yourself very well while playing in order to stream live. Of course, that makes sense if you hold the phone in landscape format. If you hold the smartphone upright, it is not so ideal. But the target group are gamers who want to film themselves in landscape format. The camera is able to record 4k videos at 60 frames per second with an 84 degree field of view.

The front camera can also record 4k videos at 60 fps. The photos are also very busy and okay, but the focus is not specifically on photography.

Is the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 suitable for VR?

The performance of the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 is more than sufficient for virtual reality games. You shouldn’t have any problems with that even for several years. The fast 144 Hz display shows everything incredibly smoothly. The pixel density is unfortunately not that sharp, but it is still reasonably good for a VR experience. What could still be a bit uncomfortable is the high weight of 226 grams, which can be very noticeable in the long run. Overall, however, this smartphone is well suited for VR.
